The documented profile
Attributed descriptors, not measured flavor intensities. See the sources below.
Flavor families classify the listed descriptors; they are not intensity or quality scores. Character bands below explain what is documented and what is still unknown.
Reading the cup
Coffee character.
The outlined band shows the reported or estimated level. These describe the cup; higher is not better.
Roast level
Reported- Light
- Medium-light
- Medium
- Medium-dark
- Dark
Placed at the roast band given by the source. This is a label, not an instrument-measured roast color. Source ↗
What does roast level mean?
The roast degree of the bean; separate from sweetness, body and quality.
Acidity
Estimated · low confidence- Gentle
- Moderate
- Bright
A moderate acidity band is our provisional starting guess from the roast and listed descriptors. The source does not establish this intensity. Reference for estimate ↗
What does acidity mean?
The perceived brightness or tartness of the cup, not a quality score.
Sweetness
Estimated · medium confidence- Subtle
- Noticeable
- Pronounced
Concentrated, jam-like sweetness suggests the pronounced band. This is an editorial interpretation of the roaster’s language, not a measured intensity. Reference for estimate ↗
What does sweetness mean?
How strong the sweet impression feels. Sweet-sounding notes can inform a guess, but do not measure its intensity.
Body / mouthfeel
Estimated · low confidence- Light
- Rounded
- Full
Rounded is a low-confidence starting hypothesis for this profile. The available information does not directly establish texture or weight. Reference for estimate ↗
What does body / mouthfeel mean?
The perceived weight and texture of the coffee, separate from roast darkness.
Finish
Estimated · low confidence- Brief
- Sustained
- Lingering
A sustained finish is our low-confidence baseline in the absence of a duration description. The notes and processing do not establish how long the flavor lasts; tasting may move this band in either direction. Reference for estimate ↗
What does finish mean?
How long the flavors remain after a sip, rather than how good they are.
Coarse descriptive bands, not laboratory measurements or cupping category scores. Brewing changes the cup. Missing descriptions receive low-confidence editorial guesses, which can change after tasting.
Our take
Berries, lavender and apricot place this coffee in a fruit-and-floral corner of the library. Blaq supplies those descriptors; our contribution is explaining the choice they create. Consider Landrace when a floral reference alongside fruit is more attractive than chocolate-led familiarity.
Why compare it with Gesha?
Blaq lists Ethiopian Landrace variety, Finca El Diviso in Huila, Colombia, light roast and double anaerobic washed processing. The variety label describes genetics, while Colombia remains the growing origin.
El Diviso Gesha shares the farm, roaster and broad roast/process labels, but its lemongrass and grapefruit references suggest another direction. This is a useful shortlist pair. It is not a controlled variety trial: detailed processing, harvest and roasting can differ.
Reading the assessment
The 87/100 is Blaq’s reported cupping total. It retains the supplier’s method label and unknown version, assessor and tasting date. We have not created component scores or treated the number as our own judgment.
Before buying
Ask which current lot you would receive and when it was roasted. ‘Landrace’ alone cannot identify every genetic component or predict consistency. If you want a comparison closer to natural processing, follow the fruit-led profile to Kayon Mountain. We have not tasted these offerings.
